Who Was Most Influential When You Were Growing Up?

When you were younger (elementary through high school age), who were some of the most influential adults (outside of your parent(s) ) in your life?

I was listening to Reggie Joiner share on the Catalyst Podcast some thoughts from his latest book “Parenting Beyond Your Capacity”.  In the interview Joiner states two key principles:

1) No one has the potential to influence a child like a parent.

and number two…although it is a counter-truth it still remains a principle…

2) A parent is not the only influence a child needs.

Joiner went on to share that one of the most strategic things a parent can do for their children is to invite other leaders into their children’s lives so they can influence them as well.

While my parents did not formally invite other leaders and individuals into my life, there were several men from the quiet streets of Lavonia, Georgia, who made a profound impact on my life.

In no particular order.

Dr. Larry Finger
Erik Fitzgerald
Brandon Niemyer
Marion Lowery
Dean Evans
Mike Smith
Bruce Knighton
Chris Chitwood

These men are just a fraction of the names I could have listed. They’ll never know or understand the important principles, life lessons, and spiritual truths they shared. For their investment a thousand “thank you’s” would never be enough. And I am eternally grateful.

So I ask you, when you were younger (elementary through high school age), who were some of the most influential adults (outside of your parent(s) ) in your life?

Share them below.
